This website describes the way casino games operate. We're not trying to encourage anyone to gamble. Gambling is for adults only (18+), and it works best when it remains as it ought to be: entertainment that you can choose to engage in or ignore, using funds you've previously determined you can afford to lose.
Every game provides the house with an edge. This edge is intended to win over the long term. It's worth stopping if you ever forget that.
When it stops being fun
Some indicators that gambling may be tipping into a problem:
- You're spending beyond your budget, or more than you can afford.
- You're chasing losses in an effort to recover what was lost.
- You're taking out loans or concealing your gambling habits.
- It's impacting your mood, sleep, relationships or work.
- You've attempted to reduce your gambling but failed.
None of these things make you a bad person. They're simply things to take seriously.
Practical limits you can set
- Decide on a budget before starting, and consider it gone.
- Set a time limit and follow it.
- Never gamble using money you've borrowed or funds intended for bills.
- Take regular breaks, and avoid playing to get away from stress.
- Ensure it's a social and sober activity instead of a solitary late-night habit.

BetStop: the National Self-Exclusion Register
BetStop is a free Australian Government initiative that allows you to self-exclude from every licensed Australian online and phone wagering provider through one process. The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) runs it, and it launched on 21 August 2023.
How to sign up:
- Visit betstop.gov.au/signup.
- Pick your exclusion period — from at least three months up to a lifetime.
- Confirm your identity using an email address, a mobile phone number, and an Australian driver licence, Australian passport, or Medicare card. Call 1800 238 786 for other ID or help.
Online and phone wagering providers must not allow you to place a bet, start an account, or receive marketing once you're registered; they must also refund any credit and shut existing accounts.
One important limit: BetStop doesn't include online services that aren't licensed in Australia or in-person betting, such as pokie venues or casinos. You'll need the helpline above and venue-based self-exclusion for those.
